Welcome

Me with Heart and Later

Einhorn Aussies is a small versatility focused kennel located in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

About me:    I grew up on a ranch with a variety of dogs: some guardians, and some herders. Our herders were mostly Australian Cattle Dogs and mixes. My love of Australian Shepherds started around 2003 when I met my first few at a show in the SF Bay Area. I was working as a trainer for multiple venues teaching Agility, Obedience, and Canine Good Citizen classes. I knew right away that I needed an Aussie and contacted a rescue. I acquired my first Aussie, Rahner, and he completely stole my heart. Due to an issue unknown at the time of adoption, Rahner ended up tragically passing away just short of his 2nd birthday. Shortly thereafter, I acquired another Aussie and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I volunteered as a long term behavioral foster for a wide variety of Aussies over the years, and am familiar first hand with a range of behavioral, medical, and structural issues that these dogs can face. I’m constantly learning new things and applying them. I’ve been around for a while and am committed to the enhancement of the breed.

What I’m breeding: All dogs here are Australian Shepherds.  All dogs are at very least both AKC and ASCA registered. Some have already or are eligible for additional registrations.

Above all, I am interested in versatility. I believe that Aussies at their best are ‘do anything’ dogs. All of the components that go into breeding them–health, conformation, herding ability, competition worthiness, and companionability, to name a few–make versatile dogs. Einhorn Aussies are currently training in herding, conformation, dock diving, scent work, tricks, obedience, and search and rescue work. My goal is to produce dogs mentally and physically solid enough for versatility championships, or anything else that comes their way.

I am breeding for mental and physical health. I believe in health testing, both genetic and structural. I believe in researching pedigrees, reporting health results, and being honest about faults.

I am breeding for conformation, in that I believe good conformation leads to structurally sound dogs who can work and play longer. I tend to prefer more moderate dogs, especially in terms of bone and coat. I am striving for dogs that in size, color, and every other quality meet the AKC and ASCA standards for Aussies. Many of my dogs tend toward minimal white.

I am breeding for herding ability. I believe that Australian Shepherds should be able to herd, and am looking to perpetuate the best in classic herding lines. I work toward titling my own dogs in herding, so that there is record of these abilities in my lines, on paper for future generations. I guarantee herding instinct in any dog I produce.

I am breeding for competition. Primarily, I’m interested in breeding dogs for sporting homes. I’m interested in dogs who have focus, a strong will to please, and who are toy motivated early on. I believe better breeding can lead to easier training.

I am breeding for companionship. I believe the whole point of a dog is to be the ultimate counterpart, in a variety of settings. I am interested in versatility, and believe that even high-octane competitors need solid off buttons.
